Its Official! Vince Young Is A Rider

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced they have signed international quarterback Vince Young.

Young (6’5 – 232) joins the Riders after playing 60 regular-season games through six NFL seasons. The 33-year-old was originally selected by the Tennessee Titans in the first round (3rd overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. After five years with the Titans, Young joined the Philadelphia Eagles for one year before having stints with the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns over his final three seasons.

Young posted a 31-19 record in 50 career regular-season starts and completed 755 of 1,304 pass attempts (57.9%) for 8,964 yards and 46 touchdowns while adding 282 rush attempts for 1,459 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year and selected to the Pro Bowl in 2006. He was selected to the Pro Bowl again in 2009.

Before entering the NFL, Young played three seasons at the University of Texas after redshirting his freshman season. The Houston, Texas native had an impressive 30-2 record in starting 32 of 37 career collegiate games. Young led the Longhorns by completing 444 of 718 pass attempts (61.8%) for 6,040 yards while adding 457 carries for 3,127 yards and 37 touchdowns. In 2005, Young became the first player in NCAA Division 1 history to throw for at least 3,000 yards and rush for at least 1,000 yards in the same season.

Young capped a standout collegiate career by throwing for 267 yards and rushing for a game-record 200 yards in the 2006 Rose Bowl as the Longhorns won the BCS national championship.

I don't care what people are saying. This is great news for the Riders.

The guy can play. He wouldn't have been the 3rd pick overall in the NFL draft if he couldn't.

I'm pulling for him!

I listened to him live in the CKRM studio on way home from work with Roddy, and the guy won me over.

The circus continues. How much longer of Jones can we take?

How does this make us younger at QB? Is there a succession plan? I hated the Glenn signing, and I hate this. We are getting older at the game's key position. 6-12 is what I see right now.

If he plays, it could be the best thing to happen to the Riders in a long time. I liked what I heard from him today. He doesn't seem to have an ego and came across like a team guy. If that's what we are getting, great!
