SportsCage/Sportsnet CFL Insider Arash Madani had some welcome news regarding the contract talks between the Riders and Darian Durant on Thursday afternoon.

Madani reported on Twitter that a CFL source says the Roughriders made a new contract offer to Durant this week.  A Rider source seemed to confirm that story, saying the club has now tabled an offer with a base salary of $300,000 with performance incentives topping out at $400,000 in 2017.

Madani further reported that he feels Montreal will be in line for Durant’s services come free agency on February 14 so he may wait to see what he can fetch on the open market.

A CFL executive told me today that he feels Durant is a $400,000 quarterback and he may be able to get it in free agency.  Madani’s report suggested the Riders don’t want to “lock in on a high cap number on a QB with Durant’s injury track record”.

Sounds like Ed Hervey told Calamity Jones to take a hike.
