Eskimos Respond To "Horrible Human Beings" Ad

If you missed it yesterday, I spoke with the Eskimos vice president of marketing and communications Allan Watt about their radio ad calling the Rider Nation "horrible human beings". He defends the team's stance in what they have done. Take a listen....

Shows a distinct Calgary lack of class if you ask me.

I posted on Rod’s blog:

“If that humour misses the mark, then I guess we’re not as funny as we intended to be”

50 cent and Howard Stern sidekick Baba Booey throwing out the first pitch were more on the mark than they were on this. This all stems from the deep down hatred the Eskimos marketing department has towards the Riders for one upping them a few years back with the “we walk among you” billboard right by Commonwealth. They have never been able to meet or beat that stunt and they have become more insulting and vindictive in their ads (particularly against the Riders) the past couple years in response.

The only reason they (the Eskimos) find this funny is because of the response they thought they would receive from the running of this ad. Despite what they said out the left side of their mouth, this is what they were really trying to do:

find humour in the Rider fan response from the insult and to make themselves feel like they got one on Rider nation and how they (in their minds) got even with the Riders marketing group.

How do I know this? Because there is a staff member, who by day works for the Eskimos and in off hours (unbeknownst to their employer) is a die hard Rider fan, that told me this.

The Calgary ads were an off spin of this Rider ad that consumed their marketing group.

Today I have been told that a pool payout on the number of complaints from Rider fans has now been paid out, as a certain group in the Esks organization have been giddy the past 2 days at how they insulted Rider fans and have gotten away with it.

So let's get this straight. The Roughriders football club likes to place ads in other CFL cities across the country and antagonize, but when it's on the other foot they whine and cry foul. Wa wa wa, here's a big baby soother, you suck Riderville.

Lol

Horrible human beings---Adolf Hitler, Clifford Olson, John Hinckley, Ray Rice, the guy who got arrested for kid porn in Saskatoon last week, and now I guess some plumber from Moose Jaw who roots for the green and white or a lawyer from Saskatoon or a car salesman from Regina. This is a "no class" move by the Eskimos, but hey if people like Old Cuss want to be compared to pedophiles and murderers its OK.

I laugh it off, but I also think the Eskimos marketing department has a lot to be desired.

Well said Ken!

Old Cuss must be from Saskatoon because being associated with the people Ken describes would be complimentary to them.

Is it any different in what the riders do to promote the games elsewhere with the bill boards.

Will the Eskimos at least assert that their fans are the second best in the CFL? They tell us who are the best (Rider fans), but what about their fans. Where to they land?

Ken is right. Murderers and child molesters are horrible human beings, but fans of a football team?

Someone needs to be fired over this debacle.

Mr. Watt says it must be working because tickets are being sold. I think the records of the two teams and the importance of the game is what is selling the tickets.

Why doesn't Obama post on this blog regularly? Is it because Rod Pederson is Obama? Cmon Mitch, spill the beans!

To anon asking how the billboards are different.

Where do the billboards take a direct shot at the fanbase? The billboard in Edmonton says the new green and gold is green and white. Is that calling the Eskimos horrible?

Anyone with a brain can see there is a difference. You must be from Moose Jaw or something!

To anon who asked about the bill boards. My meaning towards that was its all advertising motivation to sell tickets. If you take that stuff serious you must have a low self esteem about yourself.
