Six U of R Rams Going To Regional Combine

University of Regina Rams players Landon Buch, Micheal Dadzie, Jared Janotta, Kyle Paterson. Cayman Shutter, and Kolten Solomon will be among 37 participants at the Edmonton Regional CFL Combine next Monday.

The Edmonton event is one of three regional combines that will be held in advance of the national CFL Combine, which will take place in Toronto from Mar. 21 through Mar. 23. The CFL has already invited 38 players to its national combine and, with input from its teams, will extend invitations to additional draft-eligible players from the regional combines.

Buch, Dadzie, and Paterson are all eligible for the 2014 CFL Draft. Buch started five games at slotback and ended up with 12 receptions for 264 yards while tying for second on the team with three touchdown catches despite missing the final three games of the season due to injury. Dadzie was in the rotation at defensive line and finished with 8½ tackles including a tackle for loss, while Paterson was the team's starting left guard until suffering an injury against Alberta in Week 6.

Shutter, Janotta, and Solomon will attend the Edmonton combine as free agents. Shutter had a fine first season with the Rams in 2013 that saw him lead Canada West with 180 completions – the second-highest single-season total in school history – and finish second in the conference with 2428 passing yards. Janotta and Solomon were two of his primary targets, as Janotta finished second on the Rams with 44 receptions and ended up with 531 yards a team-leading four touchdown passes and Solomon had 32 catches for a team-high 622 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

This is the second year that the CFL has used the regional combine system. Janotta also went to the Edmonton combine last year as a draft-eligible player, while Chris Sciog and Jamir Walker also attended as free agents who had just finished their five seasons of CIS eligibility. Evan Fornwald, who played for the Rams as a receiver and kick returner in 2008, also participated in the Edmonton combine in 2013.
