The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will play most — and perhaps all — of their 2013 home schedule at the University of Guelph.
The football team and university have reached an agreement that would enable the CFL club to play all nine regular-season home games and one exhibition game at Alumni Stadium, home of the Guelph Gryphons.
The facility, which just underwent a $4.5-million renovation, has an official capacity of 7,500. Temporary seating will increase that to between 12,000 and 15,000.
The Ticats may still play a game at a second location — both Moncton and the University of Western Ontario in London have been mentioned as potential sites — but there are no deals in place for a location other than Guelph.
An official announcement could come as soon as Tuesday morning.
The news ends months of speculation as to where the team would call home for the 2013 campaign while they await the construction of a new stadium on the Ivor Wynne site. McMaster University, considered by many to be an ideal location, told the Tiger-Cats in July that Ron Joyce Stadium would not be made available.
By choosing Guelph, the team will hope to appease its existing fan base — the community of 120,000 is just a 40-minute drive — while expanding its influence in a region seen as key to future growth.

What did the Ticats do to piss off McMaster. It seems so logical that they would go there and not make their fan base travel a great distance. I can't see Hamilton being a threat next year either.
