Giving You Your Hockey Fix

Who knows when we will see the NHL again. It would seem as if a new deal is a long ways away from happening and that we might have to go to the winter without the NHL. Some places are playing the NHL season day by day by using NHL 13 and simulating the results. I'm not going to do that, but I am doing something similar. I have taken 12 Stanley Cup winners from 1970 on and are going to pit them off to see just who is the best team out there using a sports simulation service (WhatifSports).

Here are the 12 teams that will take part

In the Ron McLean Division, it will be

1. 1971-72 Boston Bruins (54-13-11-0)
2. 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens (60-8-12-0)
3. 1991-92 Pittsburgh Penguins (39-32-9-0)
4. 1996-97 Detroit Red Wings (44-23-15)
5. 2000-01 Colorado Avalanche (52-16-10-4)
6. 2011-12 Los Angeles Kings (40-27-0-15)

In the James Duthie Division, it will be

1. 2010 Chicago Blackhawks (52-14-0-8)
2. 2009 Pittsburgh Penguins (45-19-0-9)
3. 1995 New Jersey Devils (22-18-0-8) (strike shortened season)
4. 1984 Edmonton Oilers (57-18-5)
5. 1980 New York Islanders (39-28-13)
6. 1974 Philadelphia Flyers (50-16-12)

-----
Each team will play teams in its division twice and the others once. The top two teams in each division will meet in a best of 5 semi followed by a best of 5 final for "The Scruffy Cup" The first game will be up tomorrow. It will have the 71-72 Bruins vs the 11-12 Kings. I'll put one game up a day and if we get the return of the NHL before this is over, I will speed it up and put multiple games up. Hope ya like it!!

Nate:

Thought about having them instead of the 84 team, but I decided on the team where Wayne won his first.

I love the concept, but where are teams like the Hurricanes, Lightning and Flames that won a Cup. Is it just personal bias that they aren't in there?

Hey Mitch where are the Flames? Afraid they would win it all eh? Who knows maybe Steve Smith could score the winning goal again.
