Eskimos Looking Ahead To 2012

Eskimo fans will be draped in the club’s colours when the much anticipated replacement of the seats at Commonwealth Stadium is completed.

At today’s ”Kickoff 2012” media luncheon, Edmonton Eskimo President and CEO Len Rhodes unveiled samples of the new seats and the overall design of the stadium ‘makeover’ that will start this summer. It’s expected to take close to two years to complete the project.

Most rows in the stadium have been reduced by one seat to accommodate the new seats which are wider and feature individual cupholders. Executive suites will be outfitted with a highbacked padded seat, while the current bench seating in the north and south end zones will be replaced with a half-back seat.

Rhodes says, “The new seats will greatly improve the game day experience for our fans and the creative design leaves no doubt that Commonwealth Stadium is the home of the Green and Gold!”

Rhodes also announced a number of other fan pleasing initiatives this season, including the return of the popular Green ‘n Go program which gives Eskimo ticket holders a ride on regular transit, LRT or Park and Ride services to and from each home game. As well, the Jackie Parker and Quarterback Clubs, located on the West and East sides of the stadium respectively, will now be open to all fans. The Green and Gold Club will return to the newly refurbished gymnasium at the Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre (CCRC).

Fans in need of a refreshment will no doubt be pleased with the news that longtime partner Molson Coors Canada will be introducing a new wide mouth aluminum bottle at home games. Says Rhodes, “We are a customer driven business and the fans are our bosses and everything we’re doing is geared towards their enjoyment at Commonwealth Stadium.”

Eskimo Vice President of Marketing and Brand Management, Duane Vienneau, unveiled the Esks’ “Unleash It” marketing campaign which features All-Star receiver Fred Stamps and Eskimo fans. Vienneau says, “This campaign is bold and makes the statement that our players and our fans are truly Green and Gold to the core.”

Vienneau also announced, as part of a CFL/Rebook redesign of team uniforms this year, the Esks will sport new home and away jerseys that will be revealed in early May. The club will again this year offer fans a limited number of $99 season seats and will introduce a $49 season ticket for kids in the Knothole Gang section of Commonwealth Stadium.

I like the reusable aluminum beer bottle idea to reduce waste. The Riders should do the same. Our Green Team should go Green. (Although getting wasted on too many beers could mean that you will feel a bit green the next morning, but it will put more green in the Rider's bank account).

Individual seats? That alone would be worth the investment in a new stadium...er, multi-purpose facility in Riderville!
