Boogaard's Death Ruled Accidental

The Hennepin County medical examiner has ruled Derek Boogaard died one week ago today because of an accidental mixture of alcohol and oxycodone toxicity. The news comes one day before he is to be laid in rest in Regina at the RCMP funeral chapel. Several NHL players along with dignitaries from the NHL, the Minnesota Wild and the New York Rangers are expected to attend.

Rest easy now Derek,

One can only assume that exercise induced post-concussion headaches would have lead to the use of pain killers.

There are many articles about his work ethic, and always trying to become a faster/better player to get back into the Rangers lineup.

I know how it feels to be trying to work out again after multiple concussions. It takes years to be symptom free.

You were indeed a Gentle Giant, playing into a role that Hockey demanded.

Sadly, and ironically, a mixture of alcohol and oxycodone was what it was determined to have killed "Miss Elizabeth" (wife of the Macho Man Randy Savage) on May 1, 2003.
