You Be The GM

We are all armchair critics --especially of the Riders. OK, here you go.

In the L-P this morning is a list of free agents and those in their option year. Here it is

Free agents: DB Lance Frazier, DE Kitwana Jones, DB Chris McKenzie, LB Sean Lucas, RB Neal Hughes, OT Joel Bell, C Jeremy O‚Day, G Gene Makowsky, LB Mike McCullough.

Option year: LB Jerrell Freeman, CB Omarr Morgan, RB Wes Cates, RB Hugh Charles, LB Tad Kornegay, SB Jason Clermont, SB Weston Dressler, SB Andy Fantuz, DT Keith Shologan, DT Marcus Adams.

Who would you keep or who would you let go? What area does the team need to improve in? Who is trade bait and for what?

As you read this, know that the Leader-Post and CTV are reporting Gene Makowsky may be leaving the football field to join the political field as a Saskparty candidate in the riding of Regina Dewdney. A link to that story can be found here.

As someone who has some inside knowledge of the SP, I can confirm Geno is leaving. I thought the info would have come out yesterday. Its my understanding that Jeremy is going as well.
With that being said, I guess its good that we keep Bell otherwise 3/5 of the line will be different and we need to keep Darian healthy.
We could lose Kit and Lucas and it wouldn't kill me. Is Omar worth it for one more year?

Frazier, Bell and Hughes are the only FA"s I would keep. I would also keep O'Day if he wants to keep playing. It sounds as if Geno's days are done which is too bad.

Option year guys--Freeman, Charles. Kornegay, Dressler, Fantuz and Shologan. Sorry Wes, but you are 32. Sorry Jason, there isn't enough room at the inn because of Sisco. Sorry Omar, your time is up.

Here's a question for you Mitch. Would you send Bagg to Wpg in an attempt to get the #1 pick.

Is Kean our kicker going into camp next year or will Luca be ready?

If I am the GM, I am calling Daley into the office and I'm telling him to bring his keys and playbook with him.

Cates, our slot backs, Chunky, Frazier, Bell and McKenzie and all our line backers. The O-line had some problems, especially early in the year.

If the riders are losing Makowsky, then O'Day needs to be kept too, but it is time for some younger faces on the O-line.
Riders need to make a change on D to improve run defence.

Good for Makowsky! Can he still play?

What a joke! How is Gene Makowsky qualified to be a politician. Is it because he is a friend of Brad Wall's? Rider fans in his riding won't even look at the policies of the three parties, they will just look at the name and vote for him. Its like Goodale. No one cares about the Liberal platform, its just the name.

Geno is just as qualified as most first time MLA's. I don't think it is a sure thing he wins that seat it's a long time NDP stronghold but I wish Geno all the best.

If I'm the GM my first move would be organizing a going away party for Doug Berry and Jim Daley. Hell, you could charge admission.

Mike McCullough is one of those "unsung hero" type of guys. Is he the biggest, fastest, toughest guy out there...not a chance. But he does run that defense when he's out there, and he knows where everyone should be at all times. Could be a no-brainer to bring him back.
