New Poll Question

There is a lot of debate as to who the Canadian male athlete of the year should be this year. There are many very good candidates.

Alex Bilodeau had Canada's first ever Olympic gold medal at home when he thrilled Canadians from coast-to-coast with his moguls victory

Sidney Crosby had another great season for the Penguins and he goes down in Canadian sports history for scoring the "golden goal" at the Vancouver Olympics even though his Olympic experience left a lot to be desired amongst Canadian hockey fans.

I don't have to tell you about Andy Fantuz. He was the CFL's best Canadian and he was the first Canadian to lead the league in receiving yards in quite a few years.

Jon Montgomery may have provided us with that "one" Olympic moment. It was pure Canadiana as he walked from the Whistler luge site where he had just won gold in the skeleton to the TSN site with beer in hand. He and we just soaked it in.

Georges St. Pierre is the best MMA fighter pound for pound in the world. The Montreal native is in a sport that like it or not is now main-stream. A good part of that is because of St. Pierre.

Jonathan Toews was one of several Blackhawks to win Olympic gold and the Stanley Cup. Toews was also named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner and may have been the best Canadian on the ice in Vancouver.

Joey Votto was close to winning the Triple Crown with the Cincinnati Reds as he helped them to their first playoff berth in years. He was also named the National League MVP.

Please vote as I would like to know what your thoughts are on this. Comment away as well. Is there anyone not on this list that should be?

He's a great guy with a great story, but Alexandre Bilodeau is only popular, thanks to the scheduling of the Olympics.

His contribution is equal to Maelle Ricker, Christine Nesbitt, Tessa Virtue, Scott Moir, Ashleigh McIvor, Charles Hamelin, Jesse Jay Anderson, etc.

GSP all the way.

Ryder Hesjedal, the first Canadian to finish top ten in the Tour de France since Steve Bauer in the 80's.

I think Sidney Crosby is the "sexy pick".

GSP is an incredible athlete. But it's the whole issue of whether or not MMA is acceptable by society in general. I think people still have a problem with it. Personally, I don't. But I also don't have enough knowledge of the sport to make a comment about whether GSP deserves this award.

If I had to guess, I'd say he doesn't. Crosby probably wins.

Jamie Nye was all over this last night whining and crying because Jonathan Toews didn't get it. He then went on to say they didn't vote for him because he is a hockey player. I thought the guy had some intelligence. I guess I was wrong. Personally, I would go from that list GSP, Votto, Sid. I don't feel an Olympian should be there just because they got 15 minutes of fame. Have we heard anything about Bilodeau, Montgomery or the short track skaters since Vancouver. NOPE!

No to Fantuz. No one outside of Sask even knows who he is. The Green coloured glasses people wear can't win this one for Andy.

No to GSP. I like MMA but then we will have people crying about the "example" it is setting.

Yes to Crosby. All around great athlete and attaining Gretzky like (not in terms of points but status) profile for this generation.

Don't personally care for the Olympic guys.

Yes to Joey Votto. I could live with that pick. Very deserving.
