A Glimpse Into The Future

If you are an Oilers fan like me, you had to like--excuse me LOVE--what you saw at Rexall Place last night. The young guns were out in full force Thursday night as the Oil beat Columbus 6-3 with "the kids" getting it done.

Jordan Eberle had a pair, Linus Omark had his first career NHL goal to go along with two assists, Magnus Paajarvi had a goal and an assist while Taylor Hall had three helpers. These are the four that will take Edmonton to the next level. They won't resemble Gretzky, Kurri, Anderson and Messier, but they will bring winning hockey and hopefully championship hockey back to Edmonton. All games won't go like this, but in a few years, we may be seeing this foursome racking up more nights like this. Its about time.

I like Costco, but I found out yesterday that Costco is just like Sobeys, Safeway and Superstore when it comes to who shops there. Yes, the same tools that like to leave their cart in the middle of the aisle so that you can't get by or engage in conversation and become oblivious to those around them or those that don't realize as they sit and gawk at an item that it may be an item that you want and that you should move which is why you are looking at them is just as relevant at Costco as it is the other grocery stores. You have no idea how much that gets under my skin. It may be my biggest pet peeve.

Thumbs up to Kaley Cuoco (Big Bang Theory) as Wonder Woman!!! YOWWWWW!!!!

Rod Pedersen is on the right track with his latest initiative. On Thursday's Sportscage, Rod threw it out there that he is going for the Sportscage Regina athlete of the year. Names like Ben Hebert, Jordan Eberle and Mitch MacDonald were thrown out there. Rod wants to know if Riders should be allowed. While my opinion won't mean squat to his final decision, I say if the Rider is from Regina, he should be included meaning guys like Getzlaf and Clermont are eligible, but those who aren't from the YQR are not. Some listeners called or texted in asking why people like Graham DeLaet or Hayley Wickenheiser aren't included. The reason is simple---they aren't from Regina. If it was a provincial award, you would be hard pressed not to vote for DeLaet. The guy will become a mainstay on the PGA Tour and will be Canada's best golfer on Tour in a short while.

Speaking of the Sportscage, I will be hosting that fine program all of next week with the exception of the 24th and December 28, 29, and 30 as RP gets out of here for a while. I'm already working on guests and I will try and give you a daily dose of Riders every day.

You knew it wasn't going to last long, but the Kerry Joseph era in Edmonton is over as he was one of five Eskimos released by new coach Kavis Reed.

There seems to be a groundswell of support for Alouettes offensive co-ordinator Scott Milanovich to be Ken Miller's replacement. As Montreal's O-C, we have seen his track record, and having someone with his credentials would be fine, but just because you get an interview doesn't mean its a slam dunk that he's the guy. Milanovich has many things on the table here that must intrigue him, but he has a pretty sweet deal where he is and he may be the front-runner to replace Marc Trestman when he moves on. If I'm Milanovich, I might just be happy staying right where I am and thank the Riders for the opportunity of an interview as it may help him down the road.

"The Score's" Renee Paquette should do what it takes to become a WWE diva. Methinks watching RAW or Smackdown with her would be OK!

Thank god for places that offer a Christmas present wrapping service. When you are all thumbs like me, those places are a godsend. The wife can do a lot of wrapping, but she can't wrap her own gift dont'cha know.

Big news in the Western Major Baseball League. The league has awarded a conditional franchise to Cranbrook. This is great news for a league that I think is going to get bigger and better over the next few years. Speaking of the WMBL and the Regina Red Sox, they have announced manager Rob Cherepuschak will be back for another year. Once again, that is great news. I'm really hoping Reginans get out and embrace both the Red Sox and the WMBL this year. It is good ball!

FOX Sports Radio used to be great, but I rarely listen to XM Channel 142 anymore. People like Steve Czaban, Andrew Siciliano and JT the Brick were entertaining to listen to, but the muckety-mucks have removed all three from their time slots over the last year and replaced them with complete and total schmucks. One of those schmucks is Pat O'Brien. Remember him! I know he worked for CBS Sports a long time ago, but the guy hasn't done sports in a while and he is horrible talking about it now, Then again, at least I've listened to his show longer than I have Stephen A. Smith's. Horrible doesn't even start to describe him.

CTV Regina trotted out their new anchor Thursday night. Danelle Boivin comes from a little town in Northern Alberta that has a great little golf course. I should know that because I golfed the course there several times when I worked in Peace River. Danelle looks old enough that she may have been listening to the mighty CKYL in Peace River when I was there. God, I hope she wasn't listening to some of the buffoons (including myself) that were on-air at that place when I was there. Could what we were doing have inspired this woman to do what she is doing now. If it is, how and why?

Pam Anderson is going to be on Playboy's cover for a record 13th time in January of 2011. Is there anything on Pammie that we haven't seen the last 12 times?

If you ever see your ex with someone else, don't get jealous. Just remember that when you were a kid, you gave away your used toys to the less fortunate and really, aren't you doing the same now?

Good comment on the Red Sox. I've watched that league grow and get better over the last couple of years. Its starting to make a name for itself. THe LP has a story in todays paper and it looks like a lot of key guys from last year are coming back. Get out to Currie Field this summer.

Roddies idea is a great one, but he should have expanded it province-wide. It would be a two way race between Ebs and Delat

There is no better sports radio show south of the border right now than the Dan Patrick Show.

And get on that passport taken care of already so you can enjoy some Sioux-Gophers hockey at Engelstad Arena.

How can you not love what Eberle and co. did last nite if an Oiler fan. They are taking the Chicago approach to building a winner and its working. The question is how do you keep these guys and guys like Hemsky, Gagner, Cogliano, etc. etc.

Package Hemsky and Horcoff as quick as they're healthy and trade them for a big 22 or 23 minute defenceman. Someone that can get the puck up to those young guns.

Milanovich would be great but the truth of the matter is I'll be happy with anybody that isn't called Doug Berry.
