The CFL Carousel Is Spinning

The merry go round is starting to turn in CFL circles as teams are starting to make some moves. The Eskimos will reportedly hire Kavis Reed on Friday, even though Eric Tillman is denying it (which means it will happen). Eric always told me he thought Kavis had great head coaching credentials so that will either be proven or not. Kavis is good friends with Marcus Crandell and the report is that the Rider assistant coach will be off to Edmonton to be the Eskies offensive co-ordinator.

Meanwhile, Sportsnet's Perry Lefko is reporting former Riders offensive line coach Bob Wylie may be in the mix as to who Ken Miller's replacement is. Bob Wylie? Really? OK! I would be hard pressed to think Wylie couldn't find another job in the NFL as he is currently with the Denver Broncos, but you never know.

I have also heard from a couple of sources and Lefko also reports this that Mike Gibson (who I have thought was an outside candidate for the Rider job) will be off to Calgary.

Why do some people hate baseball. Simple. The big money contracts that are thrown out like yesterday's garbage by the Yankees and the Red Sox. Boston has signed outfielder Carl Crawford to a deal worth 20 million a season. Cliff Lee is said to be ready to sign with the Yankees at an obscene price. Its hard to get excited about the Blue Jays when you have these two teams throwing money around. Baseball really needs a salary cap. I don't care if it means them sitting out an entire season. If that's what's needed to bring some stability back to the game than so be it.

WWE fans, the Honky Tonk Man will be in Regina Friday night when High Impact Wrestling brings its monthly extravaganza to the Victoria Club. Who doesn't love the Honky Tonk Man? Remember him from his Stampede Wrestling days. See ya there! BTW, is there any chance of HIW bringing in former WWE diva Sunny. Hey, a guy can dream can't he!

A good discussion on "The Sportscage" Wednesday afternoon with Rod about the Pats and what it will take to bring them back to the forefront of the Regina sports spectrum. Wins obviously will do the trick, but entertainment as well. Fans want to go and see a good hockey game. While the Pats have played well at home this year, they have also turned in some dogs. I think and hope Chad Lang is on the right track, but he does need to trade Carter Ashton and Brandon Davidson somewhere before the trade deadline. I'm guessing Red Deer, Saskatoon or Portland would be the destinations for Ashton. Another player that fits in the picture as well is Brayden Schenn. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. One scout told me at the SJHL showcase this weekend that he wants to see what Kelly McCrimmon can get for Schenn because that's what Brent Parker could have gotten for Jordan Eberle. We'll see.

After the Leafs loss in Pittsburgh, Ron Wilson crowed that he wished he had a player like Sidney Crosby. Gee, there's a sentiment that I bet a lot of coaches in the NHL share. What a rocket scientist? By the way Ron, you had an MVP in Joe Thornton when you were in San Jose.

Please don't disturb me, I'm disturbed enough!!!

The Old 96'er has said a few times on "The Cage" that he'd love to see Kavis Reed be the next HC in Edm.
He said this in the context of it being advantageous for the rest of the Western Conference. That Edm will continue to flounder. Hope he's right!

Now, Marcus Crandel leaving here is disturbing. By all accounts, he is a very good offensive coach. Also, sounds like Darian has a very good rapport with him.

If this is true, then in the last year we have lost our 09 OC (Lapo), and perhaps our next OC (Crandel).
Now, we keep on hearing the "continuity" word in regards to having a stable and successful football team/franchise.
But, it begs the question; how are we supposed to continue to be successful when we are losing all the bright, young, up and coming, offensive minds from our organization?
Yet, we are appearing to pander to the 60-somethings- Miller, Berry and now Wylie (who is by all accounts one of the best OL coaches in football)?

Is it just me, or are we heading in a direction, down a road we've been before, that has dead end, after dead end?

Gawd, I hope not!!
