Saints Keep Marching

The NFL season has started with the defending Super Bowl champ winning the first game of the new year. I don't know how many years it has been since the defending champ opens the new season at home. but I do know the home team has never lost.

In some years, we have seen an elaborate ceremony to honor the Super Bowl champs, but not last night. Harry Connick Junior came into the Superdome and very bluntly said here's your championship banner. There was no real pizzazz or over-the-top glitz and glamour. I found that to be surprising.

Speaking of surprising, the NFL asked Taylor Swift and the Dave Matthews Band to be their musical acts for the opening night pre-game concert. There is no doubting Taylor is the "it" girl right now and there's nothing wrong with the Dave Matthews band, but shouldn't the league have found some acts with a New Orleans flavour to it. Seeing Faith Hill does the NFL on NBC song, shouldn't she have been on stage? I just found it to be a little weak. As it was, we never did get to see Faith do her thing. I guess they are waiting for Sunday night for that to happen. She is still doing it isn't she? They didn't start letting Swift do it and I missed it did I.

Question for you. Why is it when you are at the deli at your favourite grocery store and you ask for so much roast beef or ham or turkey or whatever that the deli person can never give you the exact and always goes over. Have you ever seen them go under? When they go over by a little bit, they do ask, but what are you going to say. No, take that one slab of roast beef back.

I have absolutely zero interest in sitting down tonight to watch the Stampeders-Eskimos game.

TSN is advertising a one hour Sportscenter that comes on at 4 o'clock our time. Around the Horn comes on at 3 and then its Pardon the Interruption at 330. I can't see TSN getting rid of either of those shows. "Off the Record" used to come on at 4, but now its Sportscentre. Is "Off The Record" done? If it isn't, what time does it come on? If there is no "Off the Record", what happens to Michael Landsberg?

The Dan Ellis-Twitter story is rather ridiculous, but it is a lesson learned. If you don't know what I am talking about, do a Google News search on Dan Ellis or read this from Elliotte Friedman.

Congrats to Mike Sillinger, Jamie Heward and the rest of those inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame yesterday.

If NHL 11 now has Canadian Hockey League teams, it only makes sense that the voice of those games be my good friend Peter Loubardias. He is the voice of junior hockey in this country. Perhaps this is an oversight that can be fixed for next year. Who is the voice for the game this year anyhow? Is it Jim Hughson?

For a short week, it seemed like a long one. The weekend is just a few hours away.

Good point on NHL 11. Pete should be the voice. Buying the game is one of my goals this weekend, but it will be all football on Sunday.

Its sad when the Pats and Warriors can make it on a video game, but the CFL can't. That's embarassing to the CFL if you ask me.

Reali gets booted for Landsberg. WTF? A poor decision by TSN.

ATH is a better show by far. Horrible decision by TSN.
