Rookie Camp Update

The LP's Murray McCormick has the details.....

It might be an omen of good things ahead for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The skies cleared over Mosaic Stadium on Friday just as the CFL team was wrapping up its third day of rookie camp.

The attention now turns to Sunday’s main camp when the veterans take to the field for the first time this season.

There is still work to be done before then. There were 34 players on hand for rookie camp. Riders head coach Ken Miller said that five or six players will be released before Saturday’s CFL deadline of 9:59 p.m.

“There is a lot of optimism as we look forward to training camp and being able to take the best the group we have been working with here and mix them in with our veterans,’’ Miller said Friday. “There is a certain reality when you make decisions that affect men’s lives. You can’t take that lightly.’’

So that means there will be some tense times over the next few hours for some rookies.

Veterans are to report Saturday and main camp is slated to start at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday.
