The Verdict Is In

Judge Murray Hinds has granted an absolute discharge in the Eric Tillman case. It means there will be no record of the charge.

The judge saying things like Tillman appears to be remorseful for his actions, registering a conviction would hinder Eric's ability to gain future employment in football and that he is not a threat to society.

What a tremendous waste of taxpayers dollars this was. To have this drag out for almost a year and have it come to this conclusion is simply ridiculous. Did Eric make a mistake? Yes! Was that mistake really something that had to go through the courts for 12 months. No! The justice dep't should be asking a lot of questions on this.

Sure Eric made a mistake. But who among anyone is perfect and without fault. He has apologized and the family has accepted that apology. Let the man be and let's move on.
All of this for an absolute discharge. Could this have not been handled a different way...

As I mentioned yesterday, I will be VERY surprized if the relationship between the Riders and Tillman doesn't end very soon. It's not a position that I think is best for the football operations of the team, but if I'm a female at the Rider office, would i feel comfortable having Tillman around? We still have the Trevis Smith issue fresh in our memories...doing what's best for the organization is to start afresh, with everyone going in a new direction.

I just don't know what to think, but I do agree with Trevor. This was a waste of taxpayers money.

Eric has made a mistake and he is paying for it. We have all made mistakes. I say the BOD brings him back because they know what he has done for the team and the organization. Is what he did really that bad? It could have been a lot worse! I'd be upset too if this was my daughter he did this too, but it appears as if all is well between ET and the family thus I say bring him back.

I ask these two questions to you
1)If this was a 300 lb black man that did this to this girl would you want him back on the team?
2)If the Riders hadn't won a thing under Tillman and had the same 500 record that Shivers had, would you feel the same way?

I feel bad for Eric because such a minor act will cost him in the long run. That is the way society is today. You can't do or say anything to the opposite sex because of what might happen. It wasn't that way 20 years ago. I know someone who had a female employee say some risque things to him along with grabbing his ass once and he was the one that got canned because management believed her and not him when everything exploded. That's the way it goes.

Not to get in a war of words, but Grant I think is dead wrong. He is making this a race issue and that is not the case. Whether the person is caucasion, Asiam, African American, etc, I think they woudl be treated the same, assuming that they have the same character as Mr. Tillman. he has always carried himself with the utmost dignity and would not intentially hurt the riders.
As far as Roy Shivers and Eric Tillman, these are two different people. They handle themselves completely different and you can not compare the two. That would be like comparing a apple and a orange.

Eric Tillman's fate will be decided by the rider board, and whatever decision is made I believe it will be the correct decision for both the team and the province. This is not an easy decision.
