Riders Ink 2 Free Agents To Be

RIDERS RE-SIGN GETZLAF AND CHARLES

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that they have re-signed wide receiver Chris Getzlaf and running back Hugh Charles to new contracts. Both players were set to become free agents on February 15th. Financial details of the signings were not released.

Getzlaf had a standout year with the Riders in 2009 as he finished the season with 41 catches for 531 yards and six touchdowns. The Regina product is heading into his third season with the Green and White after joining the team in 2007 when he was acquired in a trade from Hamilton. The 27-year old was selected in the fifth round (33rd overall) by the Tiger-Cats in the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft.

Charles dressed in four games for the Riders in 2009. He finished the season with 35 carries for 136 yards and three touchdowns. The Colorado product also had four catches for 80 yards and one touchdown. Charles is heading into his third season with the Green and White after being signed as a free agent in September 2008.

I don't know if Cates' time here is done after this move, but if this team is going into 10 with both of these guys in the backfield, I would like to see him get incorporated more into the offensive scheme.
