Phaneuf Is A Leaf

TSN alert: The Calgary Flames have traded Dion Phaneuf to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Flames also send forward Fredrik Sjostrom and defenceman Keith Aulie (Rouleau product) to Toronto for 4 players--Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman, Ian White and Jamal Mayers.

The Fan 590 in Toronto is also reporting the Leafs have sent goalie Vesa Toskala to Anaheim for J-S Giguere and a first round draft pick.

Meanwhile, can it get any worse for the Oilers. The team thought they could likely trade Sheldon Souray and get something of value back. Forget it! Souray broke his wrist last night when he fell to the ice during a fight with Jarome Iginla. He is done for 6-8 weeks meaning his trade value will be severely diminished. Ironically, its the 2nd time this season Iggy has gotten Souray. Sheldon missed several games with a concussion when he was checked from behind into the boards by Iginla during a game in Edmonton early this year.

Giguere is garbage now, he's just a waste of a $6 million dollar contract, probably the only reason Anaheim gave them a first rounder is because they were able to get rid of him. IF that trade actually happened.

Is this NHL 10! Toronto isn't making the playoffs, but they just got a LOT better!

What is it about Burke? The guy gives away middle of the roads and has-beens, and in return gets better quality in return. This may not get the Leafs to the playoffs this year, but they will be alot better in the years to come.

Getting Phaneuf is great, and getting Aulie might be a steal. Mayers wanted out and Stajan was a UFA at season's end. Remvoing Toskala and Blake from the Toronto equation is also great, but getting Giguere is a few years too late as his best days are done. Too bad it couldn't have been Getzlaf! Yeah right! This Leafs fan is thinking we aren't giving Boston the number one pick and that the end of the tunnel is closer.

So much for those Elisha Cuthbert sightings at the Saddledome.

It won't take Toronto fans long to change their tune on this deal.
