Could Riders Have Been Reaching For Dynasty Status?

As the Riders prepare to play the Stampeders in Sunday's Western final, I am left to wonder if this football team couldn't be going for its third straight Grey Cup had it not been for the disastrous run of injuries that struck in 2008.

As has been previously discussed on this blog, I believe Ken Miller should have been the CFL Coach of the Year in 2008 for guiding a team that no one thought could come close to repeating after losing Kent Austin to Ole Miss and trading Kerry Joseph to Toronto. Add to that the many devastating injuries the football team had, yet Miller still coaxed 12 wins out of a football team with a lineup that on many occasions was no where close to its strongest.

What would have happened in 2008 had guys like (take a deep breath) Darian Durant, Matt Dominguez, DJ Flick, Andy Fantuz, John Chick, Belton Johnson and Jeremy O'Day had not spent a significant amount of time on the injury list. We will never know the answer to that question, but it does make one wonder what if. Could it have prevented the Riders from perhaps going for their 3rd straight Coupe de Grey. There's something you can debate over the weekend as it will kill some time before kickoff.

Interesting philosophy. Don't know if I agree with it, but I can't openly disagree on it either. I'm just hoping they can get past Calgary this week and BC next. I've been thinking ever since BC won last week that they are going to win the whole thing.

Calgary was too good last year. The Riders wouldn't have beaten them with their full roster. They will beat them this year though.
